I have to say that I think we're all in the same boat. We all despise the word. I grew up with that word, but I never use it anymore. However, I was walking out of a Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta board meeting (I'm on the board & I'm a parent) and I dropped the word myself. I was mortified that I actually used that word and not only that, but with fellow parents of children with Down Syndrome. I was so ashamed that it even came out of my mouth. We are human and we must forget the past and push forth to work on eradicating the word!
